Research Centers, Institutes and Laboratories
The Center for Defense Integrated Data (CDID) provides comprehensive
research and development in the fields of data fusion, intelligent decision
support and risk assessment. Such work has been applied to homeland security,
emergency management, transportation risk assessment and disaster response.
CDID conducts advanced research in engineering and computer science and is composed
of partners from Jackson State University (JSU), the University of Mississippi
(UM), the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), and Radiance Technologies,
Inc.
The Educator Resource Center (ERC) is a partnership between
the National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) and JSU.
The NASA-funded grants and collaborations at JSU involve the College of Education
and Human Development and the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.
The ERC provides educators a chance to receive free educational materials as
well as to attend various professional development workshops. The ERC contains
a vast collection of materials for educators, including videotapes, software,
printed materials and lesson plans that reflect the most recent scientific discoveries
about space, oceans and the Earth.
The Institute for Multimodal Transportation (IMTrans) places
special focus on management and planning strategies, which address congestion
mitigation, increase transit ridership, improve capital and operating efficiencies,
improve safety and emergency preparedness and protect the environment and promote
energy independence.
The Jake Ayers Institute for Research in Urban Education Research (Ayers
Institute) is a new and innovative Extensive Scope and Outreach Program
Developed by JSU and its College of Education and Human Development. The Ayers
Institute serves as a catalyst and context for research that addresses critical
issues in urban and metropolitan communities and the educational, human service,
economic, political and social institutions created to serve those communities.
The Laboratory for Advanced Materials Testing specializes
in testing materials under an array of environmental conditions using advanced
accelerated testing techniques.
The National Center for Biodefense Communications is a strategic
initiative to bring technology for early detection and management of significant
events to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) workforce personnel.
The Northrop Grumman Center (NGC) for High Performance Computing of
Ship Systems Engineering at Jackson State University pioneers research
and technology developments in computational engineering. NGC develops and applies
state-of-the-art high performance computing tools and technologies for design
and evaluation of next generation Navy ships. In addition, NGC studies the dispersion
of contaminants in urban and battle fields, develops simulation technologies
to study the aerodynamics characteristics of future combat systems in Army's
modernization program and most importantly, provides research and educational
training for JSU students.
The Northrop Grumman Weather Testing Laboratory specializes
in testing materials under an array of environmental conditions using advanced
accelerated testing techniques.
The Research Centers in Minority Institutions Translational Research
Network (RTRN) Data Technology Coordinating Center (DTCC)
provide the technology infrastructure and data management resources to facilitate
inter-institutional collaborations, including community engagement, information
and data sharing, and dissemination across the diverse RCMI communities to improve
health outcomes, especially for underserved populations.
The Science Diversity Center (SDC) is a comprehensive one-stop
science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) cyber center designed
to broaden participation in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
workforce.
The Trent Lott Geospatial Visualization and Research Center Jackson
State University (TLGVRC)
is a research laboratory specializing in virtual reality and real-time Geospatial
Research and interactive computer graphics and provides support to scientific
research with latest developments in Geographic Information Science (GIS), Remote
Sensing and Visualization. This research center bonds existing capabilities
and expertise in the areas of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing
(RS) and Scientific Visualization (Sci-Fi). This centralization of technology,
data, people, and institutional linkages enables the discovery, evaluation,
and application of geospatial and visual data for adding value to research across
various areas and disciplines.
The Innovation Center’s mission is to assist clients
in the formation and development of new enterprises and enable them to succeed.
As champions of science and technology driven economic development, the Center
promotes and nurtures emerging technology companies to become independent, self-sustaining,
long-term successes in order to provide higher wage jobs in Mississippi.
