Offering both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree, the Department of Mass Communications has three areas of concentration: Multimedia Journalism, Media Production and Integrated Marketing Communications. The Executive Ph.D. (EPhD) Program in Urban Higher Education at Jackson State University (JSU) prepares students to assume senior leadership roles in post-secondary institutions and other organizations whose primary endeavors relate to or impact the operations of institutions of higher learning. It is designed for experienced faculty, executives, middle/entry level managers and other institutional leaders in higher education and related human services agencies. The program engages participants in the analysis of different facets of operations and management of post-secondary institutions and the development of solutions to potential or existing challenges facing urban and metropolitan institutions.

The Department of Mass Communications oversees the operation of JSU TV22, a student-run closed-circuit channel that services the Jackson State University campus community. The channel is a co-curricular activity that provides students with experience in news, production, sports, sales, promotions, and management. TV22 can be viewed 24/7 via Comcast cable on channel 22 in dorm rooms and offices located on the JSU campus.
